A wild Jaguar waking up in the Pantanal of Brazil. This feline big cat predator is the top carnivore in South America. Wildlife and nature enthusiasts go to great lengths to find these in the jungle of Brazil.

The Jaguar is a powerful predator with a distinctive spotted coat, native to the rainforests of Central and South America. I was fortunate to join a small tour group that visited their territory in the Pantanal of Brazil, where we photographed them from small boats. The sheer volume of wildlife found in this wilderness area made for some outstanding nature photography opportunities.

We followed the protected carnivore as she stalked and killed a large caiman less than twenty feet from our boat.

A Red and Green Macaw perched on a branch in Buraco das Araras, a private natural heritage reserve in Brazil. "Araras" is the plural form of "ara," which refers to a type of macaw. Here, in a naturally protected giant sinkhole about 1,600 feet wide and 330 feet deep, one of the most beautiful birds in nature can be found. The stunning red cliffs make for some excellent wildlife photography.

In autumn, four migrating Sandhill cranes forage in the wetlands of Woodbridge Ecological Reserve in Northern California. These migratory wading birds, among the most iconic found in nature, are often seen feeding in shallow water lagoons and marshlands across western North America.
