A Photographic Essay
Journey to Mongolia
In 2025, I traveled through Mongolia with a small group of photographers, exploring a country of extraordinary landscapes and enduring cultural traditions. From the vast expanses of the Gobi Desert to the rugged Altai Mountains, the journey offered a glimpse into a way of life deeply connected to the land.
Ulaanbaatar — Art and Tradition
In Ulaanbaatar, we entered the gates of Gandantegchenling
Monastery to join a quietly busy courtyard. Before long, the scent of juniper fills the air as the call to prayer echoes
from a nearby tower.
A performance by the renowned Tumen-Ekh Folk Song and Dance Ensemble introduced Mongolia’s rich cultural heritage.
the Gobi Desert
Leaving Ulaanbaatar behind, we traveled south into the Gobi Desert, a vast landscape of rocky plains, towering sand dunes, and extraordinary light. At the Khongor Sand Dunes, we encountered camel herders whose lives remain closely connected to this remarkable environment.
Kazakh Eagle Hunters
From the warmth of the Gobi, we traveled west into the bitter cold of the Altai Mountains, home to the eagle hunters.
To the Kazakh people, the golden eagle is more than just a wild bird used for hunting — it is a partner in an ancient, living tradition. This bond stems not from training alone but from a deep mutual respect that creates extraordinary relationships.
